Routine urinalysis is usually recommended at baseline assessment, although changes in urinary sediment are rarely seen except in the multi-system connective tissue diseases with a nephropathy, e.g., SLE. The test is useful for monitoring patient's therapy particularly those that may lead to proteinuria and/or nephrotic syndrome, e.g., gold injections and penicillamine.
