This test should be restricted to studies investigating the immunogenetics of patients with spondyloarthropathies and is not recommended in routine clinical practice. Although it is present with high prevalence in patients with spondyloarthropathies, it is also present in up to 8% of the normal, healthy Caucasian population. It has little value in screening patients with "soft tissue" or mechanical back pain.
