Creatinine and electrolytes are usually not a problem with primary rheumatic diseases except the rare cases of multisystem connective tissue disease associated with nephropathy, e.g., SLE and scleroderma. Baseline creatinine is extremely important in monitoring for drug toxicity and particularly in the elderly for assessing impaired renal function which may potentially be induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
